A bit of history: The village in the warm waters – Vicus Calidas – the Romans called this place in that way in the I century BC once discovered it in the picturesque hills of the Auvergne with many hot springs – all that remains of a turbulent geological history of those times. Hundreds of thousands of years ago fire-breathing volcanoes were situating on the site of peaceful hills. A mixture of lava and gas saturated the underground sources of medicinal substances: sodium bicarbonate, carbon dioxide, and a plenty of other useful mineral elements. This is why the waters of Vichy prolong youthfulness and improve health and cosmetics made ​​on the base of these waters has a beneficial effect on the skin. Name of Vichy was given to the resort by the King of France Henry IV; he  transformed the provincial town of XVII century in first-class courtly residence. And now, resting in Vichy, it seems that you live in the imperial summer residence where the palaces and villas have become luxury hotels with water and mud baths at old mansions.

Indications: Mineral waters of Vichy are classified as bicarbonate-sodium waters. Vichy has 15 sources, among them – 6 sources with potable mineral water with highly valued curative properties.

Location: Vichy is a picturesque resort town located in the central area, in the north of the Auvergne on the banks of the river Allier. Rich nature and numerous parks and gardens are typical feature of this region. The town has an opera house, casino, hippodrome, tennis courts, sports club and even airfield for private aircraft.

Visit:  the unique volcanic park is situated just in 15 km afar from Vichy

Vulcania. Park visitors have the opportunity to find themselves in the heart of an active volcano, go on a trip back in time to see the beginning of the world and the origin of the solar system, learn about the latest discoveries of volcanologists on Mars.

Medieval castle from the end of the XIII century: Busse and Olterib: both castles are considered as a national treasure of France having a unique collection of medieval artifacts. Castle Busse is a Romanesque masterpiece of medieval architecture of the late XIII century.  Designed by Renard de Vichy, the castle became the residence of Philippe de Bourbon in the XV centruy  and up remained as a property of the dynasty De Bourbon until 1997. Visit English and Italian palace parks and the museum of old carriages. Olterib Castle was also built in the late XIII century; it attracts visitors with its unique collection of furniture, medieval utensils and beautiful English and French parks.

Excursion to Charroux (140 km): Charroux is one of the most beautiful villages in France; the village has rich history – once it’s been a city-fortress and a major center for artisans. Tourists will visit: the ancient soap factory, factories of the XIII century engaged inthe production of peanut butter and mustard, a museum of history of Charroux, vineyards, wine cellar of San Pursan. If desired, visitors can dine on the farm of St. Sebastian, which is famous for its traditional cuisine of the region.

Excursion to the cheese factory of San-Nectaire. The old tradition of cheese production in San-Nectaire is still preserved in the region; the cheese is famous among the French since the reign of Louis XIV. During the tour, tourists will get acquainted with the old technology of cheese production and its subsequent tasting. An 8 hours’ tour includes: a walk through the Auvergne region, lunch, a visit to dairies and a possible visit to the grottoes.
