One of the touristic centers of the Benelux states is a small city of Liege. Liege is considered to be an attractive city as it is located in a very pretty district and is the cultural and economic center of Belgium. We should also mention that the cheap Belgian tours appear often enough so everyone can let himself/herself have a fascinating and memorable time here. And it is worth noting that you can spend a wonderful vacation both in winter and summer.
Liege is an ancient city. Its story begins in the VIII century. Despite the fact that for all time of its existence the city was burnt to ashes several times it was constantly rebuilt and resurrected preserving unique architectural monuments as well as many museums.
There is a pedestrian zone which categorically prohibits any form of transport in the centre of Liege. It has a length of more than three kilometers and is considered to be one of the longest in Europe. The city has many attractions. The most famous of these is the Palace of Prince-Bishops. Although the building was constructed in the XI century modern look was only formed at the beginning of the XVI century.
The Palace is an interesting building, combining the two styles of architecture: if the outside is dominated by the Gothic style, the inside is decorated in the style of Renaissance. This makes it unique and inimitable. Anyone can visit it; even the cheap tours will include it in the tour.
There is a famous Perron Fountain in the market square. It is the visiting card of the city of Liege, there is always a lot of tourists near the fountain. The fountain is a symbol of freedom. In 1967 it was reconstructed and now the Perron Fountain is in the forefront among the most beautiful fountains in the world. The Town Hall is another unique building that beautifies the area.
There is a large number of churches in the city due to the fact that Liège was the seat of a bishop.
One the oldest and best known churches is the Church of Saint Barthelemy, which was built in the Romanesque style. In the Church of Saint Jean tourists can see the statue of Madonna which is made by famous architect Delacroix. Another very popular church is the Church of St. James which differs from the other churches having unusual decoration in the form of the stone lace made in the Gothic style.
The city has a number of interesting museums. Among them the most often visited ones are the Museum of Walloon Life and the Museum of Walloon Art dating back to the XVI-XX centuries. Equally popular is the Community Transport Museum which hosts the exhibitions of various means of transport used in Liège and Belgium throughout the history.
At least it will be interesting to visit the Armory Museum which has many interesting exhibits and is among the biggest ones in Europe. Lovers of Antiquity should visit the Museum of Curtius (1820–1885) where the objects of the middle ages, religious artifacts and collections of coins and artifacts are presented.
Belgian Holidays will bring you many pleasant surprises and will be always interesting and informative. Although the tours to the Emirates the price of which can be easily found on the Internet are more in demand today, it is worth noting that you can relax and spend your free time in Belgium at any time of the year. Visiting this country at least for one time you will always want to come back here again.
