Gaakoshibe Island is the first non-alcoholic resort in the Maldives
“The first resort scheduled for next October will be the largest one in the Maldives” – told the reporters the head of the ADK company Ahmad Nasheed.
Although the Maldives is a Muslim country, the concept of Islamic Tourism for her is a novelty. Yet the head of the ADK has no doubts that halal holidays will succeed here.
Islam is the state religion of the Maldives. Each inhabited island has at least one mosque; the sale and consumption of alcohol is prohibited. The importation of alcoholic beverages from abroad is prohibited as well. They are sold only in bars and restaurants of many hotels.
The resort on Gaakoshibe will yet be the only completely non-alcohol resort in the country – all of its four restaurants will be halal-certified.
As on the Islamic Turkish resorts, the Gaakoshibe Resort will have separate beaches and swimming pools for men and women. One located in the capital city of Male will be able to get to the hotel by seaplane. Turkish airline company Caprice Gold is planning to register in the Maldives to open a branch here for the convenience of travelers.
